Data show that the electrification process of China's special-purpose vehicles presents differentiated characteristics in segmented scenarios. Sanitation vehicles have become the fastest-growing category in electrification, and the new energy penetration rate of public domain special-purpose vehicles continues to rise, which is expected to achieve a high electrification penetration rate by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Chen Hongwei, General Manager of Yutong Heavy Industry, revealed that the new energy penetration rate of China's special-purpose vehicles was only 1% in 2021, increased to 11% in 2024, and reached more than 15% in March 2025. Among operation-oriented special-purpose vehicles, sanitation products have the most comprehensive electrification. Due to the long cost recovery cycle of large-scale sanitation equipment, there is currently a trend towards miniaturization. Zhang Yongwei predicted that public domain special-purpose vehicles such as urban short-distance logistics and municipal sanitation will achieve a high new energy penetration rate by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The parallel development of electrification and intelligentization will become the long-term development trend of the special-purpose vehicle industry, and categories such as refrigerated vehicles, caravans, and light delivery vehicles will also usher in rapid development.
